Description
Kojic acid is a natural substance produced by certain fungi, particularly Aspergillus
oryzae, and is used in skincare products for its skin-lightening properties. It works by
inhibiting tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in melanin production, making it effective
in reducing the appearance of dark spots, hyperpigmentation, and melasma. Kojic
acid is often found in creams, serums, and soaps designed to address uneven skin
tone. It’s important to note that, like other skin-lightening agents, proper use and
sun protection are recommended to prevent potential side effects. Kojic acid tends
to oxidize quickly, use vitamin E to increase stability of kojic acid.
