Description
Obtained from the flowers of the Tagetes erecta plant, tagetes oil emits a sweet, floral
aroma with citrus undertones. It boasts antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties,
making it effective in treating skin conditions such as acne and eczema. Moreover, its
astringent properties tighten and tone the skin, reducing the appearance of pores. In hair
care, it helps maintain scalp balance and fosters healthy hair growth.
Benefits: Aromatic, Soothing, Calming and relaxing.
Category: Essential oil
Application: Skin, body and hair care products
INCI: Tagetes glandulifera flower oil
Appearance: Gold.
Uses: Aromatically, Tagetes Essential Oil possesses a fresh, sweet, floral, slightly fruity aroma. I find that it blends well with essential oils in the citrus, floral and wood families.
Tagetes Essential Oil is extremely phototoxic. As Robert Tisserand and Rodney Young indicate (see the Safety section below), it must be used at under 0.01% in topical formulations to eliminate the risk of phototoxicity.
Tagetes is a variety of marigold. It should not be confused with the marigold that gives us Calendula and healing Calendula infused carrier oils. Both have very different properties and very different applications.

Tagetes Oil is phototoxic. Tisserand and Young recommend a dermal maximum of 0.01% to avoid risk of phototoxic reaction.
Tagetes essential oil has antimicrobial and antiviral components, thus it serves as a powerful antiseptic for open wounds, sores, cuts and even ulcerated skin. This is done through the process of cleaning out and killing any bacteria or virus that is festering on such open wounds and cuts, thus preventing any forms of infections or complications such as tetanus or wounds getting septic from taking place.
